is a question of attitude for us
Our efforts in tackling climate change consists of taking small steps forward.
Since being founded, the Dornbracht name has stood for product durability and design that lasts. We are also committed to sustainable manufacturing and the responsible use of our products. We have successfully undertaken numerous water and energy saving projects, and we also began producing and selling CO2-neutral products in 2021. Through innovative products and solutions, Dornbracht is dedicated to continuously improving the energy and resource efficiency to maintain its goal of increasing its contribution towards climate change.
Since when has Dornbracht been working intensively on the topic of sustainability?
Dornbracht has always dealt with sustainability issues. For example, Dornbracht was a pioneer in the conversion to lead-free materials for all fittings for drinking water extraction in 2011.
How does the sustainability issue affect long-term corporate strategy?
Our long-term corporate strategy is strongly influenced from the inside by sustainability aspects and influences, for example, the further development of technologies and materials as well as those of our production site.
What is Dornbracht's official environmental policy?
We consistently observe ethical standards and adhere to the principle of legality. Our Code of Conduct defines the ethical and legal framework and tenets. The company is committed to the principles of sustainability, consisting of economics, ecology and social responsibility.
Does CO2 neutrality relate to the entire value chain or only to on-site production?
Dornbracht has been carbon neutral since the end of 2021: With respect to our own emissions (Scope 1) and those of our energy suppliers (Scope 2). In this context, we have implemented a wide range of measures to reduce CO2 emissions in production and sales, and have initiated several others. However, since we are a manufacturing company and cannot reduce emissions to zero, but we compensate for this with external CO2 certificates.
How has the water consumption of your products changed during the past years?
Since 2010, we have significantly reduced the average water consumption of our washbasin fittings: 50 percent for overhead and rain showers, and 45 percent for hand showers.
How do you qualify your suppliers in terms of sustainability?
We have included sustainability in the qualification, evaluation and audits of our suppliers.
What is the average life cycle of a product series compared to the competition?
Many of our fitting series have been successful on the market for a long time. They are characterized by a design that is durable, stylish and pioneering. Their design language is based on the Dornbracht design principles. These ensure the supremacy and style security of the Dornbracht designs for many years. They are the guarantee for their timeless language of form, characteristic individuality and uncompromising functionality, some of which survive generations. Even in the case of discontinued series, we offer ten-year spare parts availability and can also retrofit existing technology or surfaces via our xTra service.
What is the reason for the high durability of Dornbracht products?
We have always paid attention to the very high quality of our materials and the longevity of our fittings in design and production. The experience and long-term affiliation of our employees helps us to achieve this.
Why are you focusing on only six of the UN's goals?
We believe that it makes sense to focus. Therefore, we focus on the goals where we are most likely to exert direct influence. Our focus is on environmental goals such as Responsible Consumption and Production (No. 12), Climate Action (No. 13), and Clean Water and Sanitation (No. 6). People are just as important to us, and we are particularly committed to the UN goals of Good Health and Wellbeing (No. 3), Quality Education (No. 4), and Reduction of Inequalities (No. 10).
