Minimalist feel-good atmosphere
North meets East: Inspired by a study trip to Kyoto, architect Maria-Thérèse Kazantzidou designed the spa and lounge area of an apartment in Stockholm that combines the Nordic Scandi style with traditional Japanese interior design. Dornbracht fittings by Sieger Design add a harmonious finishing touch to the concept.
Zen Garden Tranquility
The spa and lounge are located on the top floor of an apartment in Stockholm's Vasastaden district. The interior combines Scandinavian cosiness with the clarity of the Buddhist-inspired wabi-sabi aesthetic. Light colours meet straight forms and a pared-down open room design. Like the floor, the walls, and ceilings of the two rooms are covered in beige-grey micro cement that contrasts subtly with the walnut wood elements – such as the sliding door, which is modelled on the famous Japanese shōji doors.
The central design element is the small Zen Garden in the middle of the room. A bed made of Jurassic limestone contains a minimalist arrangement of fine pebbles, bonsai plants, pin lights, and a softly rippling ornamental fountain. It radiates a meditative calm, and is also visible from the glazed sauna area.
The same applies to the shower cubicle, which also functions as a steam shower and is fitted with a Dornbracht Vaia shower application. Its Brushed Dark Platinum finish adds a subtle accent, enhancing the soothing atmosphere that characterises the spatial structure. Vaia was also used at the washstand. There are two custom-made mixers in Brushed Dark Platinum above the two basins, their organic shapes adding to the overall purist ambience.
