Deque by Dornbracht: Distinctive form in water and design

Iserlohn/Bologna The new Dornbracht bath series Deque celebrated its premiere at the ISH trade fair in Frankfurt in March, standing out with its unconventional and minimalist flat, wide, outlet design. Dornbracht is now presenting four Deque applications that demonstrate possible product installations to architects, planners and principals. The applications are now also being presented in corporate communication for the first time. Deque will be available from specialist retailers as of Autumn 2011. The series will next be presented at the Cersaie international trade show in Bologna, Italy (September 20th - 24th 2011).

"Deque is characterized by the combination of two basic geometric shapes." CEO Andreas Dornbracht explained. "One is the cuboid, the other the cylinder. Despite the complex shape, we succeeded in fulfilling the typical Dornbracht design criteria, namely perfection, precision, conciseness and proportionality. That is made possible by casting the fixture as a whole piece and then cutting it with a mortiser so precisely that the cylinder and cuboid flow smoothly into one another."

In addition to the unusual combination of shapes, it is the flow style is what makes Deque so special. As well as giving an altered optical perception of water, the pearl stream, with its parallel soft single jets, enables a pleasant, efficient and, at the same time water-saving, hand-cleaning experience. The water takes on the width of the outlet, but the natural vivacity of the flowing water provides a clear contrast to the formal rigidity and perfection of the fixture.

The presentation of the water is also the starting point for the four individual Deque applications. They each combine outlets with a landscape element. The applications vary in size, but do however have a consistent architectural signature and material style.

"The Deque applications shape the water by treating the water itself as a kind of architectural surface," Mike Meiré explained. "They function as a sort of frame that presents the water. Clear, reduced. We thereby grant water a lot of respect."

The Deque applications in detail:

1
A spacious, light bathroom as a central living point. Linear, interconnected elements and natural materials, for example concha limestone and parquet flooring, define the spatial and lighting mood. In continuation of the Deque sculpture, matte surfaces contrast with glass panes and mirrors. Moreover, an external basin functions as an almost seamless transition between interior and exterior as an optical continuation of the bathtub.
> The Deque wash stand flush mounted fitting with individual rosettes, and the Deque bathtub stand flow spout, both with natural, wavelike water jets.

2
A modern, puristic bathroom with clear geometry. Showering with JustRain and a view into nature. Luxury mosaic tiles in three coordinating, earthen colors are reminiscent of the soothing color palette of nature.
> The single-lever fixture with the new pearl stream flow with separate jets on the wash stand, and the JustRain with xTool thermostat module in the shower.

3
A masculine, minimalist, free-standing bath. High quality walnut and exposed concrete encase a calm, stylish world. The exposed concrete wall gives the appearance of exterior space, creating a seamless transition to outside. A natural play of light and shadow comes within, from outside. An exciting interplay between nature and culture.
> The Deque single-lever fixture with pearl stream on the wash stand, and the Deque bathtub flow spout with natural, wavelike water jets.

4
A light, feminine bath. The contrast between matte and polished surfaces is also characteristic here, with fabric panels adorning the walls and a rear bathtub wall of frosted glass on which the Deque fixtures are mounted. The fabric panels and rear wall are in-keeping with the fixture's formal geometry. The bathtub could also be placed in the living space, removed from the usual bath areas.
> Deque bathtub-wall wave flow spout and natural, wavelike water jet.

The applications provide architects, planners and principals with inspiration for individual bathroom planning.

"While developing Deque, it was important for us to continue the minimalist design of recent years while at the same time creating a new and innovative design and functional series with the unconventional flat design of the fixture," explained Michael Sieger from Sieger Design.

Deque is available in chrome and matte black finishes as of Autumn 2011. The design is by Sieger Design, the architecture of the Deque applications by Mike Meiré.
