How can new technologies transform, enhance or even replace the encounter with the element of water? Dornbracht is devoting time to this question during this year’s Fuorisalone in Milan (9–14 April 2019). In the context of an immersive installation, visitors can discover water as an interface – between an individual and technology, between materiality and immateriality, between physical and virtual experience. The project, which is entitled “Is Memory Data?”, takes up the brand’s long-standing cultural commitment at the same time as marking the beginning of a new and experimental format: the Dornbracht Research Lab.

Venice Biennale 2017: Dornbracht sponsors contribution for German Pavilion

The 57th Venice Biennale is set to start on 13 May 2017. For the third time, Dornbracht will be sponsoring the contribution for the German Pavilion which is to be designed by Anne Imhof this year. Especially for the Biennale, Imhof is developing a piece of work which travels through space and time, comprising sculptural, installative and performative elements. In her scenarios, she envisions how the human body is constituted within material and discursive, technological, socio-economic and pharmaceutical demarcations.

"Exchanges with artists such as Anne Imhof are a significant component of our brand awareness and deliver key impulses in order to continually develop bathroom and kitchen design", claims Managing Partner Andreas Dornbracht.

Dornbracht Fittings in the Luxury Hotel Café Royal Newly Designed by David Chipperfield

After 4 years in redesign and restoration, Café Royal, the London luxury hotel, reopened its doors last December. Dating to the 19th century, through its redesign by the renowned British architect David Chipperfield, the listed structure has advanced from a posh restaurant to a five-star hotel with 159 rooms. The hotel's bathrooms, which feature the Dornbracht Tara fitting series, offer the highest in quality and style as well.

More

Tara is the contemporary interpretation of an icon of design. Chipperfield selected its puristically subtle language of form as a means of introducing elegant understatement to the room design, breaking with the historical luxury of the edifice. The fittings' classically timeless design fits in perfectly with the light Carrara marble of which washbasins, bathtubs, floors and walls are made. A rain shower recessed into the ceiling rounds out the exclusive ambience of wellness.

The French wine dealer Nicholas Thévenon originally opened Café Royal in 1865 as a restaurant. With such illustrious guests as Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf, Winston Churchill and, later on, Liz Taylor, Richard Burton, Brigitte Bardot, David Bowie and Mick Jagger, it quickly became a legendary cult address for the London bourgeoisie.

Tomás Saraceno „in orbit“

Hot on the heels of the "Cloud Cities" installation by Tomás Saraceno sponsored by Dornbracht, his latest exhibition "in orbit" in the K21 Ständehaus in Düsseldorf also portrays his vision of a future world: 2,500m² of steel net and air-filled spheres on three seemingly floating levels 25m in the air.

More

In his work, the Argentinean continually deals with scientific phenomena, from spiders' webs to astrophysics and biology. For "in orbit", Saraceno worked for around three years with biologists, engineers and architects to create his most complex installation yet, which can be seen as a permanent installation in the K21 until autumn 2014.

Within the Dornbracht Installation Projects Saraceno presented his three-dimensional installation "Cloud Cities" in the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin in 2011. The exhibition presented an organic space mesh which, by means of single modules inspired by nature, created a new, utopic life cosmos. Since 1996, Dornbracht has been constantly supporting selected exhibitions and projects from various artists within the scope of the Dornbracht Culture Projects.

Dornbracht 2nd in ranking of top 50 Germany luxury companies

Institute for Luxury, INLUX, has ranked the Dornbracht brand at second place in its annual ranking of the top 50 German luxury companies, listed in its industry magazine, Luxury Business Report. Dornbracht convinced the experts on the advisory panel on all six criteria on which the ranking is based: exclusivity, size, internationality, international awareness, Internet presence and sustainability. The long-term cultural commitment under the aegis of Culture Projects played a decisive role in the ranking as well.

More

The magazine provided its reasoning for the outstanding ranking awarded to Dornbracht: ‘Here, the Dornbracht brand shows how to do it right – and that it is possible for a family-owned company to succeed internationally and achieve recognition as an innovation leader. (...) This, along with a transparent information policy, makes Dornbracht the climber of the year’.

In their rankings, the experts were guided by specific questions: Does the company stand for the best quality? Do buyers develop emotional ties to this brand? Is the company innovative? Achieving second-place based on these and other questions, and on the six ranking criteria, left Dornbracht well-positioned in comparison with brands across all sectors considered, but also leading the field in the category of Interior Design and Decoration.

Along with Dornbracht, the luxury ranking listed other well-known German companies, among them Montblanc (3rd place), Meissen (10th place), Porsche (24th place), Hugo Boss (42nd place) and Thonet (44th place). This year's first-place ranking went to the photography and optics company Leica Camera.

Jeremy Shaw in the Schinkel Pavillon

In his installation "Introduction to the Memory Personality", part of the ”ONE ON ONE“ exhibition sponsored by Dornbracht in the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin, Jeremy Shaw already dealt with cultural phenomena and altered states of consciousness. In a confrontational one-to-one situation, visitors were faced with film sequences which tried to hypnotize viewers through image and sound.

More

Following "ONE ON ONE" and his participation in Dornbracht Conversations 4 on the topic of "Public Intimacy" (December 2012), the Canadian artist is now coming to Berlin with a solo exhibition: From June 23 to July 21, 2013, the Schinkel Pavillon (LINK 4) is presenting "Variation FQ".

In his latest work, the artist portrays the transsexual dancer Leiomy Maldonado in a dynamic, seductive voguing performance − the dance style which became popular through New York subcultures in the 1960s. The 11-minute film in the style of Norman McLaren's ballet film "Pas de deux" is not only based on the depiction of the graceful yet aggressive dance movements but also presents the provocative interplay of dance, subculture and gender.

Creative design from the Goethe Institute in Prague

The exhibition "Indoors and outdoors. Creative interventions in the Goethe Institute in Prague" opens on 22nd November 2012. In the course of this project, five German artists have expressed their creativity in five areas of the institute building that are open to the public. The works have come into being as a creative response to the architecture of the Art Nouveau building (1905) and to the urban and social environment. The curator of this extraordinary project is Prof. Dr. Stephan Berg, the Director of the Kunstmuseum fine arts museum in Bonn.

More

The Goethe Institute has always been a meeting place for the young creative elite from the Czech Republic and a shop window for contemporary German art. The current project expresses the Institute's increasing desire to involve the public in what goes on there. In the next three years, the works will be a regular feature in the rooms of the Institute. An exhibition catalogue has been produced to mark the opening of the exhibition. ONE ON ONE exhibition

The ONE ON ONE exhibition (from 18th November 2012 to 20th January 2013 in Berlin) creates a confrontational one-on-one situation. International artists conceive works and spaces specifically for the exhibition, that are intended to be perceived by one visitor at a time. In opposition to the imposing museum architecture with its spacious exhibition halls, visitors make their way through individual, self-contained spaces, where they are alone with the works.

More

ONE ON ONE is being held in the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin, a place where contemporary art is produced and presented with a view to promoting discourse. Wendy at MoMA PS1

The Young Architects Program has been on display since July 1st for the 13th time in the courtyard of MoMA PS1 in Long Island City.

This year's winner is the temporary urban urbane scaffolding design "Wendy" by New York architects Matthias Hollwich and Marc Kushner (HWKN). Wendy visualizes ecological awareness and responsibility and extends the boundaries of architecture in an entirely new way, because the integrated blue nylon material neutralizes the air pollution produced by approximately 260 cars with its titania nanoparticle coating. The star-shaped iconic structure of the installation is only limited by natural influences including shade, wind and rain and provides the MoMA PS1 grounds with a unique visual identity within the framework of the Warm-Up Summer Music Series. Wendy is sponsored by Dornbracht among others.

HWKN was founded in 2006 and develops innovative responsible projects at the interface of architecture, necessity and sustainability.

Thea Djordjadze: “As sagas sa, 2012” dOCUMENTA (13)

For the 13th edition of dOCUMENTA in Kassel, more than 50 artists have been invited to display their works in the Baroque park grounds of the Karlsaue. Georgian artist Thea Djordjadze developed a large-format installation of found and sculpturally reworked materials as a place-related sculpture in a greenhouse.
The artist works with simple materials such as plaster, wire meshing, wood, loam, paper and textiles, and her ephemeral and shadowy, seemingly incomplete works fit in nearly perfectly with the topic for this year’s dOCUMENTA: “Collapse and Recovery.”

Thea Djordjadze was born in Tbilisi in 1971 and lives in Berlin. She was a master student of Rosemarie Trockel and has had solo exhibitions at Malmö Konstmuseum (2012), Kunsthalle Basel (2009), Studio Voltaire, London (2007), and the Bonner Kunstverein (2001), among other venues. Djordjadze was a participant in the Berlin Biennale (2008), the Biennale de Lyon (2007) and the Biennale di Venezia (2003). Her work “As sagas sa” is sponsored within the scope of dOCUMENTA by Dornbracht Culture Projects.

The artistic works of Rudolf Stingel have made a significant contribution to breaking up the aura of the white cube. He questions the definition of panel painting and turns the relationship between spaces and painting upside down. The Rudolf Stingel LIVE exhibition was held in the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin as part of the Dornbracht Installation Projects series in 2010. (more)
In the Wiener Secession exhibition, Rudolf Stingel returns to the white cube and sets three of his works in the main hall of the building. 23rd February 2012 – 15th April 2012, Secession, Friedrichstraße 12, Vienna, www.secession.at

Dornbracht trainees gain first-hand experience of life and work in South Korea

On 09.02.2012, two Dornbracht trainees are starting some rather unusual practical training. They will spend two weeks in Gwangju, South Korea, getting an impression of everyday life and the working environment there. They and their fellow students from the school of mechatronics at the Theodor Reuter Berufskolleg training college in Iserlohn will not just be gaining an insight into what goes on, they will also be taking part in projects themselves. The young people from Iserlohn are making a return visit to South Korea. The previous autumn, a class from Gwangju had seen for themselves how work and training went on in a company like Dornbracht, for example.

Tomás Saraceno’s "Cloud Cities" at the Hamburger Bahnhof

This is the eighth time that Dornbracht has initiated the "Dornbracht Installation Projects". The "Cloud Cities" installation of Argentinian artist Tomás Saraceno (*1973) is on display at the Hamburger Bahnhof National Gallery until 19th February 2012. The exhibition has been extended by a good month due to great demand.

More

Spiders’ webs, astrophysics and legendary visionaries such as Buckminster Fuller, are just some of the sources of inspiration for artist Tomás Saraceno. His works, which he calls "biospheres", are organic dimensional meshworks that float in the room, sometimes occupied by plants and sometimes simply held by black cable nets. The artist originally studied architecture and the starting point for his works is his interest in our current and future living environment and in society.
