Extra/Ordinary - A further Dimension on the Rise of New Normal

It was the third of the discussion platforms initiated by Dornbracht in 2008, dealing with the current interchanges between design, architecture and art. This time around, the debate to which the internationally active company invited participants to its headquarters in Iserlohn on February 17th, 2011, took place under the title "Extra/Ordinary – A further dimension on the rise of New Normal" and looked at design in a different light.

In the first panel discussion, designer Michael Sieger, head curator of the Vitra Design Museum Mateo Kries and Andreas Dornbracht talked about design history and evolution. The second panel discussion, with architect and designer Matteo Thun, creative director Mike Meiré and author and critic Thomas Wagner, continued the subject of extra/ordinary design. The often quoted aesthetic of the New Normal is the design answer to the knowledge and information society. That includes products like the iPhone and iPad where appearance takes a step back to give more space for content.
