Magnificent building with modernised facilities: the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg

Iserlohn, 2 December 2025

For more than a hundred years, Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle has been one of Germany's most important concert halls, combining neo-baroque opulence with masterful acoustics. The “little brother of the Elbphilharmonie” will undergo a gradual renovation until 2027. Already available in the public bathrooms: Vaia with Touchfree Infrared technology from Dornbracht.

Hamburg’s traditional venue
The Laeiszhalle, also known as the “Musikhalle Hamburg”, is in Hamburg’s Neustadt district. Opened in 1908, it houses several halls where concerts are held regularly. In close consultation with the monument authority, the facades and historic windows of the building are being renovated as part of the modernisation process. The Hamburg-based architectural firm SWP is responsible for the careful renovation work.

Neo-baroque architecture
The imposing neo-baroque building with its richly structured sandstone façade, dome, and curved gables is adorned with copper sculptures and wrought-iron railings with botanical motifs. Inside, stucco ceilings, marble columns, and detailed ornaments are reminiscent of the magnificent décor of historic opera houses. The Great Hall, with its approximately 2,000 seats, is characterised by boxes and balconies, as was common in 18th-century Baroque theatre architecture. It also impresses with its white and gold wood panelling, which not only looks magnificent but also provides excellent acoustics.

Touchless fittings
One of the central measures of the modernisation project is the redesign and expansion of the sanitary facilities. Black marble, dark wood, and recurring gold elements lend the interiors a touch of class. Vaia Touchfree in Brushed Durabrass (23kt Gold) demonstrates minimalist elegance and underlines the sophisticated aesthetics of the interior design. The touchless version of the Dornbracht fitting is not only aesthetically pleasing: the infrared technology is hygienic, saves resources – and is therefore particularly recommended for semi-public areas.
