Cosiness in every respect

This country house in Flanders, designed by the Belgian office MarS Architects, has an unusual and inviting appearance: A thatched roof encloses the main and outbuildings of the ensemble like a cocoon. Thus, it radiates cosiness as well as hospitality and blends ideally into the surroundings. Another highlight on the spacious property on the edge of a small Flemish community is the natural pool with ornamental pond. Photographer: Nick Cannaerts

The interior of the house is cosy and simple, style-conscious and modern. The design thus ideally reflects the architecture of the building. Made-to-measure cupboards, filler walls and sliding doors structure the open floor plan. Natural stone, steel and light oak complement each other ideally in the basement and create exciting contrasts. The black steel staircase connecting the spacious living and dining area with the first floor is highlighted by the wooden floor and the dark TV wall.

In it, there is a glass window that creates visual relationships between the living room and the light-flooded kitchen. Dark floor tiles and solid wood fronts define its look. The Matte Black design classic TARA blends in ideally and discreetly takes a step back. Its semi-circular, slender spout and striking positioning in the room nevertheless give the fitting a sculptural appearance. A long dining table and comfortable leather chairs invite you to linger.

The three bathrooms were also designed generously and openly. The reduction to the essentials creates a feeling of calm and clarity. The bleached oak wood used for furniture, some walls and parts of the floor, as well as the light natural stone and white surfaces such as basins have a grounding effect. These simple elements make the Matte Black fittings the highlight of the rooms.

In the largest bathroom, the characteristic TARA cross handles on the washbasin form a gentle contrast to the straight-lined architecture. The free-standing fitting next to the bathtub becomes the eye-catcher of the room. Matching products from Dornbracht were also installed in the shower. The same combination of TARA wall-mounted fitting and showerpipe can also be found in the second, smaller bathroom. In the guest bathroom, a TARA wall-mounted valve catches the eye directly.
