Natural stone
The integration of natural stone is a hot topic in bathroom design – its durability and versatility makes it suitable for floors, walls, bespoke washbasins and tap handles. Whether a richly textured sandstone or a smooth limestone, the unique characteristics of natural stone celebrate all that is individual; no two pieces will be the same. This level of customisation is another reason why natural stone is a top material for 2026.

Coloured marble
Marble has always been a firm favourite in opulent bathrooms but a recent rise in coloured marbles has seen this practical yet striking design highlight appear in high end bathroom designs. The combination of colour and texture creates a beautiful alternative to ceramic tiles. With inherent natural variants making each piece unique, marble creates bold backdrops as well as intricate design details. Green marble, especially, is emerging as a complementary element for biophilic design and enhanced wellbeing. Metallic accents in gold or brass work beautifully to create a warmth and a luxurious feel.

Fluted and textured surfaces
Light filled bathrooms with iridescent material touches create an interplay between water and light, leading to holistic luxury. Fittings witih hammered metal handles or fluted glass elevate with understated ambience in the bathroom. Not just aesthetic, these surfaces become a tactile experience which reward the senses whether incorporated in tap fittings and handles or as basins and accessories. Glass is a commonly recycled material satisfying a need to create spaces which offer longevity in design.

Mixed metals
The rule book is being thrown out on uniform metals in favour of a more individualised approach. The variety of finishes now available means that a carefully curated palette of metallics across fittings and accessories can take the place of total co-ordination, allowing designers to be inspired by tone and contrast; layering to create rich variety.
