In times of increasing urbanisation, well thought-out living concepts in just a few square metres are in demand. Bathrooms require design solutions that are as intelligent as they are appealing. With its fittings, the manufacturer Dornbracht shows how function and aesthetics can be combined in the smallest of spaces.

Less urban living space
More and more people around the world are moving to the big cities. This is where jobs and amenities are concentrated. In addition, a dynamic environment full of cultural offerings and leisure opportunities is attracting people. According to United Nations forecasts, around 70 per cent of the world's population will live in cities by 2050. This steady development is leading to a growing demand for urban living spaces. Particularly striking is the high proportion of single-person households, which is contributing to the fact that living spaces are becoming increasingly scarce and, above all, smaller. This presents investors and developers with the challenge of planning as efficiently as possible – with smaller residential units, fewer square metres, and maximum use of space in a small floor plan. This also increases the importance of space-saving concepts in urban housing construction.
Fittings as a key component
In bathrooms, taps play a central design and functional role. They are becoming a key component of modern urban bathroom architecture: combined with fine materials and carefully coordinated colours, they quickly become the aesthetic focal point of the room. Dornbracht impresses here with a range of unusual fitting designs: the manufacturer offers a variety of intelligent solutions that are tailored to limited spaces. These include models with a small projection for compact washbasins, or wall-mounted versions that create additional freedom of movement.
“Taps can noticeably enhance small bathrooms in particular,” explains Michael Sieger, whose design studio Sieger Design has created pioneering tap series together with Dornbracht. “This applies to models that blend in harmoniously as well as those that set expressive accents. In this way, high design standards can be combined with functional efficiency, even in confined spaces.”
