Michael Majerus makes use of pictorial quotations from the diverse image canon of high and low art. In doing so, he designs an adequate image of the current spirit of the times, as increasingly characterized by speed. "You can no longer make art that is just art", Majerus says. Working according to principles of economy, he has moved past the "classical" idea of painting and brings it into a new light by exponentiating art's desire to assimilate using offensive zapping. The 500 sq m hall was designed specifically for the exhibition within the context of the Dornbracht Installation Projects and bore the title "if we are dead, so it is". A skater ramp as long and wide as the room served as a image bearer for the work of the artist who died young in 2002.
