Together with the design studio AB Concept from Hong Kong, the fittings manufacturer Dornbracht has created its second Atelier Edition “The Knot”. For this purpose, the handles of the Coya series have been reinterpreted in a playful way. The complex design is modelled on the traditional Chinese Ruyi knot, which stands for happiness, prosperity, and a life in harmonious balance.

Gently curved loops
The eponymous knot originates from the ancient craft of knot-tying, which has been practised for centuries and often used as a sign of good wishes during celebrations such as the Chinese New Year. “Cultural symbols harbour deep meaning in the simplest of forms,” explains Ed Ng, Co-Founder and Principal of AB Concept. “That's why I always find it exciting to transfer their impact to contemporary design.” For “The Knot”, the internationally renowned design studio and Dornbracht harmonise the Ruyi shape, which embodies continuity and infinity, with the flowing design of Coya, created by Sieger Design, in an original way. The cloverleaf aesthetic of the knot is translated into four gently curved, symmetrically interwoven loops that intersect in a square centre. Carefully balanced, the proportions of the handle are in perfect equilibrium from every angle. The transitions are crafted with the utmost precision and the curves are designed for ergonomic comfort.

Meticulous manual labour
The fine radii of the geometry of “The Knot” can only be realised through meticulous handwork: Each handle is individually polished or brushed before it is finished. These highly complex processes require experienced specialists who work the detailed loops with sensitivity.

Atelier Editions as an invitation to rethink the design of fittings
“The Knot” is the second Atelier Edition from Dornbracht following the launch of “The Rock” in 2025. The manufacturer draws on over 75 years of experience for the exclusive fittings and handle variants. As expressive design objects, they combine progressive, unusual design ideas with masterfully executed craftsmanship. Each product is characterised by a special interplay of materials, finishes, shapes, and manufacturing techniques. The idea behind it: to question established conventions through bold, inspiring design approaches. With these extraordinary editions, Dornbracht invites you to rethink the design of fittings, allowing creativity and inventiveness to unfold freely.
