Villa Linné

Contemporary elegance in the heart of Borås

A welcoming home in western Sweden’s cultural hotspot

In Borås, Sweden, Studio Mariella Interiors has carried out a comprehensive redesign of a city villa. Villa Linné combines architectural clarity with an ambience that prioritises comfort and contemporary elegance. In the kitchen, bathrooms, and spa area, classic Dornbracht fittings complete a design concept in which every detail has been carefully considered.

Revitalisation with sensitivity: Borås, situated in south-west Sweden near Gothenburg, has developed in recent years into a minor mecca for art and design enthusiasts. Colourful murals by international artists adorn the walls of houses throughout the town, earning it a reputation as an open-air gallery. Here, Pia and Amanda Jonsson, owners of Mariella Interiors, have put their own artistic stamp on a villa: working alongside the clients, they revitalised the building with great sensitivity, transforming it into a tranquil, inviting oasis right in the heart of the city centre. “Every decision we made was intended to be part of a larger narrative,” the two interior designers explain. “We wanted to create a home where everything is harmoniously coordinated, thereby crafting something deeply personal.”

Spaces with atmosphere and depth: The completely refurbished Villa Linné now exudes an extraordinary sense of warmth and tranquillity. Spacious, open-plan living areas are characterised by a carefully balanced palette of materials. Dark-stained oak dominates the furniture and fitted elements, whilst clean lines lend a modern touch to the elegant aesthetic. These are complemented by carpets and curtains in soft beige and cream tones, and natural stone with expressive veining. Together, these exclusive materials give the rooms atmosphere, depth, and a cosmopolitan flair. The kitchen epitomises this approach: dark wooden fronts take a back seat to the wall cladding of white natural stone, the veining of which resembles an abstract painting. SYNC complements the kitchen’s design with its dynamic, forward-leaning design language – whilst the Brushed Champagne (22kt Gold) finish provides a subtle contrast.

TARA in the bathrooms: This compositional principle is also repeated in the bathrooms. In the master bathroom, it is TARA in Brushed Champagne (22kt Gold), with the light gold tone also adding subtle accents in the shower. Particularly noteworthy is the low spout of the washbasin tap, which blends stylishly into the design. The same TARA variant can be found in the guest bathroom, where the Brushed Bronze (PVD) finish is skilfully matched to a darker variety of natural stone. Similarly, in the spa area, TARA creates elegant ensembles with the stone and wood elements. Here, the bath and washbasin taps are complemented by towel rails in Brushed Bronze, thus completing the overall aesthetic.
