20 years of Tara by Dornbracht - The anniversary of a classic

Iserlohn When Dornbracht brought Tara to the market in 1992, the fitting's minimalist design with its characteristic cross handles was a revolution – precise, simple and elegant. As a two-handled fitting, in the early 1990s – a time in which single-lever mixers dominated the market – Tara was not in keeping with the trend. The progressive concept of Tara quickly became the archetype for the modern bathroom fitting. Tara continues to receive a large number of international design prizes to this day, and it is copied again and again the world over. It is a modern classic, with an entire book dedicated to it - "TARA. Armatur und Archetypus" (published by Birkhäuser Verlag).. 2012 marks Tara’s 20th anniversary, demonstrating the product’s timeless design and with more than a million produced, it is one of the most-sold Dornbracht fittings. 'Tara is one of our most successful fittings, and in large part it serves as a basis for the Dornbracht reputation as a trend-setting manufacturer of high-quality fittings and accessories for bathrooms and kitchens', CEO Andreas Dornbracht points out. 'Tara stands for the four P’s at Dornbracht: proportionality, precision, progressiveness and pithiness. Its cross handles combine modernity with the tried and tested. Tara is pure and modern. At the same time, it conveys the feeling that it is an old friend. A Tara bathroom built 20 years ago is still up to date.'

After serving as the standard in the bathrooms for more than a decade, in 2008 Dornbracht in collaboration with Sieger Design, presented its much loved design classic as a new standard for the future; a contemporary interpretation and the logical continuation of the original Tara, not a radical departure. 'You don't change a classic', notes Michael Sieger of Sieger Design. 'You refine it.' As such a newer, leaner silhouette was bestowed upon Tara. becoming even more elegant. The body of the fitting was extended to give the it greater visual verticality, the rosettes and handles were streamlined, the contours sharpened overall. All of this in order to place even greater emphasis on the perfect geometry and symmetry of the clear language of form.

Tara has been available since 2008 in matt white and matt black finishes in the special editions Tara. Black Edition and Tara. White Edition. These finishes have become the hallmark of a directional avant-garde. The architectural colours of black and white are a conscious reference to the world of Bauhaus.

Design critic Thomas Edelmann wrote in an essay on the refinement of Tara: 'The classic possesses the potential for adaptation to changed circumstances. It is open to a transformation in meaning. [...] Now, in white and black, Tara presents the non-objective colours of the 1960s, invents us a new avant-garde and causes us to emerge, changed, from it.'

Tara is available for the bathroom and the kitchen; for basin, bath tub, shower and bidet in the bathroom, it is available in black (Black Edition), white (White Edition), platinum, matt platinum and chrome. A line of matching accessories round off the programme. For the kitchen as a single-lever mixer with or without spray arm, in platinum, matt platinum and chrome finishes. The product was designed by Sieger Design.
