Martin Boyce researches and interprets modernistic design fragments like an archaeologist. He often applies the form and material repertoire of important architects and designers. 1959, Capital Avenue - this was the name of the fictive address of the foyer that Boyce realized in the central hall of the MMK (Museum of Modern Art) in Frankfurt within the context of the Dornbracht Installation Projects. A broad curtain, representative arm chair, glass tables and ash trays introduced an atmosphere of cool elegance. However, the sculptural character of his furnishings transformed the place into a utopia. Reminiscent of the modern, Boyce called its visions of a better future to mind and represented them at the same time as something that has not yet happened.
