Conversations
The Dornbracht Conversations series was launched in 2008 as a platform for public discourse between the disciplines of architecture, design and art.
DC 1 explored “What is a design classic, and what value do classics have in a transversal culture?” Artist Tobias Rehberger and designer Stefan Diez were among the participants.
DC 4, held at the Kunst-Werke in Berlin was devoted to the topic of “Public Intimacy”. In this discussion, panel participants Carolin Christov-Bakargiev, Susanne Pfeffer, Jeremy Shaw and Charlotte Klonk discussed the loss and repositioning of privacy. The discussion was part of the accompanying program to the exhibition ONE ON ONE, sponsored by Dornbracht, which was dedicated to perception and communication in the field of tension between privacy and public.
DC 5 took place in the context of the exhibition "CO-WORKERS - Network as Artist" at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and dealt with the topic "Biotechnosphere" and the changed relationship between nature and technology in a "smartified" world. The event was moderated by curator Toke Lykkeberg and the panelists included Lauren Boyle and Solomon Chase from the artists' collective DIS, Andreas Dornbracht as well as Mike Meiré. DIS was responsible for the scenography and initiated the installation "The Island (KEN)", a hybrid object that merges the normally separate elements of kitchens and bathrooms, which formed the spatial and thematic focus of Dornbracht Conversations. DIS created the object in collaboration with Dornbracht and Mike Meiré as co-designer.
In DC 6, held in London and moderated by the artistic director of the Serpentine Gallery, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Anne Imhof and Susanne Pfeffer for the first time, since they were awarded the Golden Lion for the best national participation, talked about “Faust”, the work of art which inspired the jury at the 57th International Art Exhibition in Venice: a piece that travels through space and time, comprising elements of sculpture, installation and performance art. In her scenarios, Anne Imhof envisions how the human body is constituted within material and discursive, technological, socio-economic and pharmaceutical demarcations.
DC 8 featured Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu from Neri&Hu, and Rafael de Cárdenas from Architecture at Large. The subject up for debate in the creative hotspot of Berlin-Kreuzberg was “Are interior trends over?”, with Dezeen Editor-in-Chief Marcus Fairs discussing with the architects whether trends or styles can continue to survive in the digitalized and globalized world of today. The venue for the event was the new FvF Friends Space, an open and modular architectural concept which was the perfect setting for the theme of the evening.
