Inside the new studio of Roelfien Vos: spaces for thinking, creating, and feeling at ease

Iserlohn, Germany, 20 October 2026

A wealth of colours, textures, and subtle details: Dutch interior architect and designer Roelfien Vos has created a new workspace for herself and her team. Occupying two floors of Patch22, an award-winning timber building in the north of Amsterdam, the office resembles an exclusive flat rather than a typical workplace. In the bathrooms: a bespoke version of the new Coya tap from Dornbracht.

A holistic creative environment
The new studio covers an area of around 350 square metres and was conceived as a holistic creative environment, comprising not only of work and lounge areas, bathrooms, and a kitchen, but also a creative lab and a materials library. The colour and material palette, just like the open-plan layout, is designed to directly reflect the style of the interior design studio. “For me, a contemporary office ideally doesn’t feel like an office at all,” says Roelfien Vos, describing her approach. For the designer, who is best known for her bespoke high-end interiors, the priority is rather to tailor the environment precisely to people’s needs. “I didn’t want to follow a standardised corporate formula,” says Vos. “An office should inspire, stimulate creativity, and provide space for collaborative thinking and creation.”

A diverse range of materials
In the entrance area, visitors are greeted by a white sofa arrangement which, together with a long-pile, amber-coloured carpet, forms an inviting ensemble. Directly opposite is a table displaying a selection of materials: here, visitors can examine fabrics, natural stones, and metals that characterise not only the surrounding ambience but also the rest of Vos’s work. “Materials have a very strong influence on how we experience a space,” explains the interior designer. “Particularly in a studio dedicated to creative work, they should stimulate the senses without distracting.”

This principle also applies to the other rooms, where a multi-layered selection of materials, rich in textures and subtle contrasts, is paired with muted colours. Roelfien Vos’s own office, for instance, is decorated in a calm lime green, accentuated by dark woods and expressively patterned carpets and curtains. Individual design pieces, such as a lamp encased in feathers, lend the interior design an extra touch of character.

The guest bathroom also features warm, balanced contrasts. Cabinet fronts in a rich burgundy tone harmonise here with light, sandy-coloured travertine surfaces featuring a reddish grain. The bespoke version of the Coya tap, created by Dornbracht Atelier, picks up on precisely this interplay: the Brushed Dark Bronze finish echoes the deep brown washbasin, whilst custom-made travertine handle inlays are perfectly matched to the washbasin and walls.

Workspace meets comfort
The two floors are connected by a light-coloured staircase, which is bordered by an artfully minimalist bronze balustrade as it approaches the window front. On the upper floor, the spatial design transitions into an open-plan workspace with desks. This is complemented by several lounge areas and a communal break-out table, which emphasises the homely atmosphere. “In the workspace itself, comfort and well-being are crucial,” explains Roelfien Vos. “Beyond the purely visual design, acoustic planning and air quality therefore plays an important role.” There are certain elements that particularly catch the eye: these include, for example, the pine-green sofa complete with tropical plants and a piece of wall art reminiscent of moss-covered surfaces.

The team bathroom impresses with its sophisticated aesthetic. Its most striking features are the walls, with their golden, labyrinthine pattern, and a round mirror framed by delicately woven raffia. The new Dornbracht Coya design series blends in seamlessly: the Brushed Dark Brass finish complements the travertine of the washbasin in an understated, elegant manner. In the shower, too, the Coya fittings skilfully contribute to the clarity and tranquillity of the bathroom design.
