A chalet with spectacular views
Geilo lies at an altitude of around 800 metres in Norway’s Hallingdal, where rocky ridges gradually give way to the expansive, boggy fjell landscape. The small village is regarded as one of Norway’s most important winter sports centres, renowned for its numerous ski slopes and cross-country trails. No longer an insider’s tip, it still resembles a tranquil, typically Norwegian cluster of cabins. Here, LHM operates at the intersection of traditional log cabin design and contemporary architecture: an approach the company consistently pursues with the LHM 9 Max chalet. The “hytte” – a retreat deeply rooted in Norwegian culture – meets modern luxury that fulfils every expectation of comfort.

An open-plan layout rich in detail
One of the most striking features of this building – which appears small and compact only from the outside – is its open-plan layout. Support pillars that obstruct the view have been almost entirely removed: Stability is instead ensured by a solid steel structure concealed behind a cladding of solid pine timber. The open-plan living space, which extends right up to the roof, is entirely oriented towards an imposing glass façade. Two details, moreover, particularly catch the eye: firstly, the sculptural lamp in the living room, suspended above the sofas and armchairs. A unique fusion of a chandelier and an art installation, the delicate bronze structure commands the entire room. Equally impressive is the fireplace, made of black, volcanic-looking granite, with its relief pattern of various vertical lines.

Beyond such eye-catching features, the interior is characterised by an aesthetic that skilfully combines a chalet-style look with modern elements. Natural materials such as wood, leather, and fur are complemented by glass and steel. The coordinated colour palette focuses on muted, organic tones such as beige, cream white, and anthracite. Both factors help ensure that the individual areas blend seamlessly together: The open-plan kitchen, for example, impresses with its light wooden fronts and natural stone worktops. The Dornbracht Sync tap and the Tara Ultra Hot & Cold Water Dispenser, complete with a matching soap dispenser, form a harmonious ensemble there. The Brushed Dark Platinum finishes elegantly complement the dark stone, veined with rust-pink hues.

Custom-made Vaia in the guest bathroom
The Dornbracht products also make a striking impression in the chalet’s bathrooms: In the main bathroom, Vaia in Brushed Dark Platinum features twice on the custom-made washbasin. Unlike the usual, the two taps are positioned opposite each other, creating a sophisticated visual frame. Equally successful is the combination of the velvety black bath set in a gravel bed and the freestanding Vaia tap. It stands out subtly against the slate-grey tiled wall, thereby enhancing the clear, calming atmosphere of the room, just like the rain shower complete with Vaia control elements. Finally, a surprising highlight awaits in the guest bathroom: the tailored washbasin, with its striking mirrored backdrop, resembles a shrine, completed by a bespoke Dornbracht Atelier creation. Two Vaia handles in Brushed Dark Platinum are positioned at the edge of the washbasin. The water flows from a spout that protrudes directly from the ceiling as a slender tube – and thus emphasising the chalet’s exclusive aesthetic.
