The Ostendian combines the golden age of the Belgian coastal town of Ostend with an urban lifestyle. Inspired by the classic Art Deco look, the lifestyle hotel, which opened in 2025, is playfully reminiscent of the bathroom culture of days gone by. The Dornbracht icon Madison proves to be the perfect match.
Maritime flair, urban lifestyle
Ostend was once one of the most fashionable seaside resorts in the world: however, the city has long since emancipated itself from the nostalgic splendour of its past. Today, it presents itself as a modern coastal metropolis, where boutiques, cafés, and a vibrant cultural scene set the pace. This is where “The Ostendian” is located, in the immediate vicinity of the main railway station and marina: a lifestyle hotel that breathes the spirit of the new Ostend. In addition to 113 rooms and suites, the 4-star hotel has several meeting rooms and co-working spaces. There is also a restaurant modelled on an old Kursaal and a bar in the cool vintage chic of the seventies.
Living local culture
The overall concept was developed by “The Brand Guys” and realised in detail by design studio BLCN Design. The close connection to local culture is a special feature: the hotel worked with local artists for the interior. This can be seen in the individually designed suites – such as the “Herr Seele Studio” with hand-painted murals by the cartoonist and artist of the same name. The “Red Light Suite”, on the other hand, is a tongue-in-cheek reminiscence of the former Hazegras red light district in Ostend. Another highlight: The “Record Suite”, with its own recording studio, electric guitar, and keyboard, invites guests to spontaneous jam sessions. The regular rooms are also stylishly designed and rich in detail. Shades of red and pink meet vibrant yellow. Curved fabric panels behind the beds create striking accents.
Madison as a key design element
The clever mix of retro charm, eastern folklore, and urban nonchalance also characterises the bathrooms. White and ochre tiles, wooden washbasins, and high mirrors in the shape of round arches revive the bathroom culture of the turn of the century. The Dornbracht Madison fitting plays a key role in this: its historically timeless shape becomes the central design element on the washbasin, shower, and bathtub. In addition to the hexagonal spout and the typical porcelain plates, the classic Chrome finish also ensures this. In another bathroom design, however, the iconic mixer tap blends subtly into the expressive chessboard look – demonstrating just how adaptable it can be.
